Hemingway was not only a prolific writer; he was also a prolific drinker of alcohol, and in Cuba he developed a fondness toward the national drink — rum. Hemingway had two drinks made from rum that he made internationally famous through his writings: the daiquiri and the mojito. Each of these drinks were specialties of two of Old Havana's bars. Hemingway himself distinguished the two bars with this famous quote, which now adorns both establishments: "My mojito in the Bodeguita, my daiquiri in the Floridita." Today, the Floridita is a popular tourist destination. It is in the heart of Old Havana, just a block or so away from the Parque Central on the Avenida Bélgica. It attracts a wide array of people, including jineteros , or those Cubans involved illegally in the tourist industry. The daiquiris, which cost $6, are a main attraction along with the Hemingway memorabilia that is present throughout the bar.
