industry is to Cuba's economy? Can you think of any other industry that may
be as important as tobacco to Cuba?
b. How important is tobacco to the U.S. economy?
- While Cuba is famous for its cigars, in what forms is tobacco commonly consumed
in the U.S.?
- a. In what states in the U.S. is tobacco cultivated?
b. Looking at the map of Cuba, and what
you know about where tobacco is grown in the U.S., where would tobacco most
likely be cultivated?
- In what part of the world did tobacco originate?
- In the capitalist economy of the United States, there are many tobacco
companies. How many do you think are in the communist system of Cuba?
- In Europe there is a black market for tobacco to avoid taxes. In the U.S.
a black market for Cuban cigars exists due to the embargo, which makes the
purchase of Cuban products illegal. Why would there be a black market for
Cuban cigars in Cuba ?
